Jim and I were close in grade school (West Elementary). He was a class clown. So happy-go-lucky and full of life. We didn't hang out any more after junior high. I really was shocked and saddened by his sudden death. When I do think of him, I always remember a young boy laughing and joking. I hope that's how he's spending eternity.

I remember Jim always making me laugh. I was drawn to him because he was fearless. He was a risk taker with his wit.I admired his outlandish behavior and jungle call (like Carol Burnett). I was so shy that his over the top personality simply wowed me. Whenever I see Jim Carey in a movie, I think of Jim Detmer. They have the same type of humor and I think they resemble each other. I think about Jim and the shortness of his life on occasion. He will always be missed.

Betty, I too think of Jimmy Dettmer when I see Jim Carey.  A couple of memories about Jim are the time he drove a little matchbox car through the icing of a cupcake my mother brought in the month she was room mother.  She still brings that up.  The other memory of Jim is right before he died. He went to 4 county and I ran into him in the hallway at school.  We talked a few minutes, had a real nice conversation.  Days later he had his car accident. I remember his funeral, how sad we all were.
